At Community Access Network great emphasis is placed on appropriate training for staff and all staff are DBS checked.

The residential house Manager has achieved their Registered Manager and Care Level 4 awards. They also have experience of residential work and demonstrate a sound practice base in accordance with local registration requirements. They must regularly attend training sessions with staff.

Senior Support Workers have a minimum Care Level 2 award and undertake the NVQ Level 3 award in Supervisory Management.

Support Workers have personal development plans, and have regular supervisions and an annual appraisal.   All staff are required to undertake NVQ Level 2 in Care and attend basic First Aid and Food Hygiene courses, Medication and Vulnerable Adults Awareness Training. There is a formal staff induction package and a rolling programme of short courses which includes:

  • Listening skills
  • Empowerment and advocacy
  • Mental health issues
  • Managing difficult behaviour
  • Disability issues
  • Recording and report writing
  • Health and safety
  • Risk assessment

Many staff come to CAN with considerable experience of working with disadvantaged people. Everyone is supported in undertaking any training relevant to their work and where particular training needs are identified a specific course is arranged.
